All You Need To Know

Forgive me for being absent on the G-Pinions front for oh so long. I would blame it on an over-abundance of school work but you've heard that excuse before. So, without further ado, an excuse only Tom would come up with: I was listening to Pearl Jam while watching the 49ers one day when a Raptor riding a T-Rex entered the room. I covered my mouth with my hand from the shock of seeing my much fantasized creation come to life, and accidentally knocked over the plate of brownies I was eating. There was a moment of stunned silence as the Raptor, the Rex and I all stared at the brown pastry that fell upon the clean, white rug. Just then, an adorable German Sheppard puppy ran into the room carrying a Norm MacDonald figurine in his mouth. As I was thinking of a way to end this ridiculous tale, I caught Ebola and spewed forth my liquefied insides.

Moving on to gaming...

My head is about to explode. Super Mario Kart, my favorite video game of all time, receives a sequel that is its equal in every way. The only difference is Mario Kart DS can go online so I will always have strong competition. Can this be? Can my favorite game ever finally be trumped? Find out in future editions of G-Pinions. If you don't own Mario Kart DS or, heaven forbid, a Nintendo DS, you must go out and acquire both of these items in any way you see fit. It took them four versions, but the Mario Kart series may finally have reached perfection.

Why is my head exploding? Because Perfect Dark just happens to be my second favorite game ever and its first sequel just came out. Guess what? Perfect Dark Zero is amazing. I haven't played the multiplayer yet nor have I played single player, but the co-op mode, or at least the first four missions of it, are ridiculously fun. Somehow Rare kept the feeling of the original intact, while making it feel like a next generation game. Sure, there isn't anything particularly new here, but it is pretty and one of the most fun games I have ever played. Ignore the fact that mission objectives, which rely on guess work along trial and error situations from time to time, are not the most intuitive around, but it doesn't matter when everything just feels so right. I don't want to say this is the new standard for FPS yet, but I do know that if I was able to buy an Xbox 360 it would have been more than worth my money just to play this game in my own home.

Honestly, PDZ would be game of the year if it was released just about any other year in the history of gaming. 2005 just happened to be home to Resident Evil 4, Kirby Canvas Curse, Mario Kart DS, God of War and Shadow of the Colossus, though. I'm not sure the industry has ever seen such a combination of innovative gameplay along with perfected realizations of standard genres.

And with that brief outburst, I'm back to nursing my decimated intestines.

More when the sun is out

I would just like to say that I am very happy and impressed with my Xbox 360, and that Geometry Wars is fucking brilliance.
