At last

So I've been moving for the last week - I can't vouch for Tom though. Anyhow, the one thing moving has taught me above all others is that I have a damn lot of games. Well, relative to the rather modest portions of everything else that I own. Who would have guessed that I have 62 SNES games? Certainly not I. Who needs three Link to the Pasts? Again, you must be thinking of someone else. It's a hassle too; do you know how much space four of each controller for six different systems takes up? It's a good three cubic feet, which goes a long way when you own a lot of crap.

So now that I'm all hooked up and quasi-organized, what have I played thus far? Well, the internet here isn't so hot, which makes the Halo lag killer. I'll obviously have to get that taken care of before I go on living my life, but it's nice having a break from it, even if it's against my will. I've mostly been dabbling in my SNES and N64 library, trying things I've owned for ages but never touched (Super Buster Bros - one of my favorite arcade games ever), and starting games I'm embarrassed to say I've never played (Chrono Trigger). It's all very fun and exciting, even if it doesn't make for the greatest news item.

Despite not having internet or time over the last week, I've done my best to keep up with the gaming world. I played some Kirby: Canvas Curse, which is simply fantastic (and will be my first game when I finally get a DS). You use only the stylus to play, and the movement and control is still wonderfully accessible and precise. It's a simple idea, but it works so, so well.

Tonight I played the first couple hours of Conker, which I picked up for Tom today but probably won't hand over for 72 hours or so. I have some really mixed feelings about the game, but I guess I've been fairly entertained thus far. It's almost inexcusable how Rare didn't improve the controls, camera or basic level design (not that they were bad by any means, but standards are just so much higher nowadays), but the graphics are so gorgeous and lush and some of the characters so entertaining that it's worth biting the bullet just to get to the next area. It also feels oddly sparse and methodic compared to today's Ratchets and Blinxes (ha, what a lame, lame reference eh?, but I suppose that's how every 3D platformer was before the genre leveled out a bit. So yeah, I've had a decent time with it thus far - I'll probably hop online with it tomorrow - all I'll say is that PDZ better be the best damned game in a while, because as pretty as this is I want Rare quality in today's working world, not shiny remnants of their past.

Updates will be regular again now, and to apologize for the lull here's a pretty picture from NBA Live 2006 on the 360:
